The Prison Ministry of FBCM was established in 1985 under the leadership of the late Pastor Lenwood Graham. The Prison Group was an active part of the Missionary Ministry, but due to needs of the community it evolved into a separate ministry.

The first mission of the ministry was at Camp 30 Prison, located in Fairfax, Virginia. The ministry conducted Bible Study on the third Sunday evening of each month at 6:00 PM. This Bible Study at Camp 30 Prison continued for 12 years. The Prison Ministry also facilitated a weekly Bible Study at the Arlington County Detention Center for 5 years. Currently, members of the Prison Ministry meet individually with inmates at the Alexandria Jail, Fairfax Detention Center, and Manassas Jail. Due to needs of the church, members have traveled to Richmond, Virginia to visit with incarcerated individuals.

Matthew 25:34-40 is the foundation of the Prison Ministry, it provides strength and encourage. The FBCM Prison Ministry has been active for over 20 years. A major highlight and effort of the Prison Ministry is the Angel Tree Ministry. The Angel Tree Ministry occurs during the Christmas season, and allows the entire body of FBCM to participate in the support of the Prison Ministry. Church members and friends purchase gifts on behalf of the incarcerated parent. This allows the incarcerated parent to take an active role in selecting Christmas gifts for their children, it allows the member of FBCM to continue to serve the community and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, and it ensures the children receive gifts during the Christmas season. The Prison Ministry becomes both the hands and feet of incarcerated parent to help them reach out to their children. The Prison Ministry is intended to, not just give Christmas gifts.

The Angel Tree Ministry is more than a seasonal gift-giving project; it is a doorway through which the committee who serve in this Ministry can help families find or strengthen their relationships with God and the church. It is also a path to restoring and strengthening child-parent relationships.

The Prison Ministry Committee is as follows:

  • Minister Charlie Talley, Chairman
  • Carmen Bacon, Deaconess
  • Joann Suttington, Trustee
  • Brenda Collins, Missionary
  • Erin Cosby, High School Sunday School Teacher
